Dr Leonard Anderson

When people ask what I do, I now reply that I am a philosopher.  Others seem to think I am a professional agitator.  Perhaps they are closer to the truth.  I have no fear in asking awkward questions and putting pedants in their place.  On the other hand, my highest qualification is as a Doctor of Philosophy.  When you start your computing career with paper tape compilers, it can’t have been long after Alan Turing’s demise. One has learnt to be philosophical through living, not studying.

Recently I have been most heavily involved in public sector ICT. Examples are:

  • A virtual learning environment for children excluded from school
  • Systems Interoperability Standards
  • Federated Identity Management
  • Local Government and Voluntary Sector ICT policy
  • Parliamentary lobbying for better legislation surrounding information governance, cyber security and voter registration
  • Local e-Government Standards
  • Blogging

My mission is to explain how good information governance can help to  improve civil society. I now understand that politicians and public servants are the place to start, and I must endeavour to reach them.
